Abstracted Creek

The scene is from near Black Mountain, NC where I was teaching a workshop. A wonderful friend and participant in the workshop drove me around to some places she knew I would enjoy painting before the workshop... and taking photographs.

I loved the Joe Pye Weed growing on a small bit of dirt in this creek. I have painted a lot of versions of it because it inspires me each time I see any photos of the flower! I enjoyed leaving the strokes of the palette knife visible for a taste of abstraction in this painting.
