Apologies for not having written a blog post for over a year now. Bad girl, right? Many of you know I have been writing a book for several years now. I thought I was finished and have been to a publishing house seminar in our area. I learned a few more things about what I needed to do regarding publishing. So I have been working diligently on it. To add "writing a book and editing it, redoing it, putting in photos, changing it, etc." to my already busy life of being a wife, mother, grandmother, friend ... and a professional artist ... [...]
The following is what I just sent out today as a newsletter. I am reprinting it here for my blog because I feel strongly about what I have written . . . This newsletter is a bit of advice I have read in many different places. It seems that as I have aged, the ideas of how to work on my artwork, and even how to live my life, are at the forefront of what I read about. How did they know?I do quite a bit of reading first thing in the morning with my coffee and while the house is relatively [...]
This blog is about thoughts and intuition ... and rambling about writing and thinking before painting! [...]
A fun day talking to visitors to the gallery, High Country Art Gallery, in Blue Ridge, GA. [...]
Or has it taken a different course? Of the course if the painting has shifted, sit and think about whether you need to go with it, or put it back on course by making changes that take it back to the plan.Version #1 — I thought I might be finished. And, it had already been changed quite a few times before I got to this part. But, it still did not capture the feeling I wanted for the viewer ... and to please myself!Version #2: A few days later, I started again and change the path of the water instead of [...]
I have always loved to read... hardback books are my favorite, not paperbacks! I am what is called a "book-a-holic!" And, most of my reading books is in the evening. You may know I spend a good bit of time in the morning with my coffee reading newsletters, and other stuff on the computer. I share articles and newsletter posts on my Facebook page quite often. I have several different newsletters I have subscribed to, visit their sites and scroll to previous articles by many of those newsletter authors. I get lost in reading quite often, and end up sitting here much longer [...]
I have four paintings showing with the Southeastern Pastel Society (SPS) at the Sautee-Nacoochee Cultural Center from June 16 through August 6, 2023. This is in the area of North Georgia near Helen GA. It is such a beautiful drive! It is worth just that to go up. But there are many artists that belong to this organization showing their work. I enjoyed my drive up to deliver my work and two other artists. We help each other out in that way. One of the others will go pick them up ... that is if they are not sold. The work is for [...]
Entering shows and competitions is hard work but something an artist does at some time during their career ... I call it my “journey.” It takes a lot of work, and a bit of money, and sometimes learning new skills to be able to do these events.I was honored to have a pastel painting accepted into the American Impressionist Society (AIS) Small Works Show that is showing in Knoxville, TN at The District Gallery. There were 1615 entries for this show, and 154 were chosen! Wow!!! That is about 10% of those entries being chosen. My painting "Family Tubing" is a [...]
Flying By the Seat of Your Pants Maybe? If you do something creative … like me and my creating paintings … you deal many times with the idea of "what do I paint today?" What interests me will always have the biggest impact on what I would like to paint. I believe if you are doing anything creative, you must follow your gut or as some call it, your intuition.I grew up roaming the small town I live in, and being outdoors most of every day … when not in school or cleaning up my room at home. Of course we have things that must be [...]
