This scene is from North Carolina when I was teaching a painting workshop. I painted plein air before the workshop at this location and took many photos. I love painting moving water and rocks and water in a stream. Waterfalls are not easy to paint from a photograph because of the stop action of that camera. But I painted this waterfall in pastel while I was there ... plein air. It taught me a lot about portraying rapidly falling water. For this painting I wanted to keep it simple. I hope it portrays the feeling of a waterfall and the coolness we feel most of the time when sitting near one. I love the sound of a waterfall!
